Low-Income Students Get Chance At College
Summer Application Institute Students Receive College Acceptance Letters

Marin Education Fund’s Summer Application Institute celebrated
its 7th year of success in getting 50 low-income Marin high school
seniors to college. Graduates from the 7th annual Summer Application
Institute have begun to receive their acceptance letters from colleges
and universities across the region including:
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; California
State University, Chico; California State University, Humboldt;
California State University, Long Beach; California State University,
San Diego; California State University, Santa Clara; California
State University, Sonoma; Dominican University of California;
Loyola Marymount University; Mills College; Occidental College;
Saint Mary's College; San Francisco State University; San Jose
State University; UC Davis; UC Irvine; UC San Diego; UC Santa
Barbara; UC Santa Cruz; Union College; University of Redlands;
University of San Diego; University of San Francisco; University
of the Pacific; Whittier College
During the five-day dormitory experience and year-long mentoring
program, funded by generous donors who support Marin Education
Fund’s charitable mission, high school students learn how
to obtain financial assistance, complete the college application
process, take part in test preparation activities, and participate
in intensive writing clinics geared toward college and scholarship
application essays.
“Marin Education Fund believes that everyone should have
a chance at college. The Summer Application Institute has been
amazingly successful at helping deserving students have a chance
at college that they otherwise would not,” said Kim Mazzuca,
Marin Education Fund President.
After attending the Institute students are able to leverage
financial aid resources into $10,000 per year in assistance on
average, which means the difference between going to college
or not having the chance.
“Marin Education Fund’s support has made a very
important difference to me in my life. I’m in college because
Marin Education Fund gave me a scholarship and made me believe
that I could succeed,” said DJ Bola, a Summer Application
Institute graduate and the first member of his family to go to
college.
