Lua Pires de Almeida Endowed Scholarship
In
November 2004, the Board of Directors of Marin Education Fund resolved
to establish an endowed scholarship fund in honor of Lua Pires
de Almeida, a Marin Education Fund scholarship recipient who tragically
lost her life in May of 2004. The fund was established with a generous
gift from a community member, someone who had been touched by knowing
and working with Lua.
In so many ways, Lua embodied the very best: she was a leader in her community, a person who shared the great gifts of her character and served as a model and example to her peers. Lua participated in Marin Education Fund’s Summer Application Institute and was completing her first year as an undergraduate at Northern Arizona University.
In her honor, Marin Education Fund awards the Lua Pires de Almeida Scholarship. Candidates for this award will share Lua’s aspirations and spirit. We look forward to this opportunity to help carry her legacy forward.
