Undergraduate Scholarships
Who is eligible to apply?
Marin County resident who will be attending an accredited or state-approved college and enrolling in:
- An undergraduate academic program leading to an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree or a teaching credential.
- At least one semester or two quarters during the 2008-2009 academic year.
- A minimum of 9 units per term.
Priority will be given to:
- Marin County High School seniors entering college
- Other entering freshmen
- Second year students
- Third year students transferring from a community college to a 4-year college in fall 2008
- All renewing applicants
Undergraduate scholarships are NOT available for:
- New applicants in their 3rd, 4th, 5th year or beyond at a four-year college.
- Students pursuing their 2nd or more bachelor’s degree
- Graduate studies (even if an undergraduate degree has not been attained)
- Students who already have a graduate degree
- Enrollment in schools located outside the United States (except study-abroad programs of accredited schools located within the United States)
- Students who have been funded by Marin Education Fund through the Undergraduate Scholarship Program for six or more years, or four or more years at a community college
- Summer enrollment
- Students who hold a F1 or F2 student visa, a J1 or J2 exchange visitor visa, or a G series visa
How do I apply for the Undergraduate Scholarship?
The application is available online from January 1, 2008 to March 2, 2008. Follow the link to complete the online Undergraduate Scholarship application.
When is the deadline to apply?
March 2, 2008. The deadline for the 2008-09 undergraduate scholarship has now passed.
How will I know if Marin Education received my application?
When you submit the application online, you will receive an email confirmation of receipt of your application. Be sure to save this email as proof of application submission.
How much money can I recieve?
Undergraduate scholarships range from $1,000 - $5,000.
How are scholarship awards determined?
Undergraduate scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. New recipients are chosen from those who meet the basic eligibility requirements, demonstrate financial need and by their personal statement score. Renewal applicants must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress and financial need.
What college does this scholarship cover?
All accredited and state approved two-year and four-year colleges in the United States.
If I am a part-time student can I still apply?
Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units to receive funding.
What happens if I need to drop classes or reduce my enrollment?
Students are only eligible to receive funding if they are enrolled in a minimum of 9 units. If you must drop below 9 units, contact Marin Education Fund immediately, as it will affect your eligibility in the future.
When do I get my check and where does it go?
Students must return all required paperwork to Marin Education Fund by the stated deadline. At the beginning of each quarter/semester, the student must submit enrollment verification. Upon receipt of enrollment verification, scholarship checks will be made payable and mailed directly to the student.
Can I renew my scholarship?
Yes, scholarships are renewable and students are required to submit a renewing application every year. Renewing applicants must also submit their official transcript by the March 2nd deadline. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher and complete the units for which they have been funded to remain eligible for funding.
Professional and Technical Training Scholarships
Who is eligible for a Professional and Technical Training Scholarship?
Marin County residents who will be attending a training program that results in a license or certificate from an accredited or state-approved institution and:
- Enrolls part-time of full-time (as defined by the institution)
- Pursues professional or technical skill certification or license
OR
- Pursues basic skill(s) necessary to enroll and succeed in an undergraduate or professional and technical training program
- Demonstrates financial need
How do I apply for a Professional and Technical Training Scholarship?
You may apply for the scholarship beginning July 1, 2008 for the 2008-09 academic year. Applications are available through our website or in our San Rafael office.

How are scholarships determined?
Professional and Technical Training Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. New recipients are chosen from those who meet the basic eligibility requirements, demonstrate financial need and by their personal statement score. Renewals applicants must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress and financial need.
When will I find out if I am getting a scholarship?
Scholarship award decisions will be made within 60 days of the receipt of your application.
How much money do Professional and Technical Training Scholarships provide?
Scholarships range from $1000 to $5000. The scholarship does not cover the full cost of any training program. It is designed to assist the student to cover the cost of attendance, books, supplies or cost of living.
When do I get my check and where does it go?
Students must return all required paperwork to Marin Education Fund by the stated deadline. Students must submit enrollment verification at the start of their program and again midway through for programs longer than six months. For programs less than six months, students will receive one check at the beginning of the term. For programs longer than six months, students will receive two checks, one at the beginning and one at the mid-point. Checks are made payable and sent directly to the student.
What if my program has already started? Can I still apply?
Students are eligible if they have not completed more than half of their program by the date they submit their application.
Can I get a scholarship for graduate studies?
No, The Professional and Technical Training Scholarship is only available to those who do not have their bachelor’s degree and are working towards a license or certificate.
My program is longer than a year. For how long can I get funding?
Scholarships are awarded for one year only, and are renewable for up to four years contingent upon demonstrated progress towards your educational goals. Our current cycle is from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008. You must re-apply when this cycle ends.
If I am a part-time student, can I still apply?
Yes, part-time students are eligible. They must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
Child Care Scholarships
Who is eligible for the child care scholarship?
Marin County residents enrolled in an accredited school pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, license or certificate who demonstrate financial need and have children under the age of 11 attending a licensed child care facility.
How do I apply for the child care scholarship?
Applications are available through our website or in our San Rafael office.

When is the application deadline?
Applications are accepted on a rolling deadline beginning July 1, 2007.

Child Care Scholarships range from $500 - $9,000, depending on the parents enrollment status and the cost of child care.
When do I get my check and where does it go?
Checks are issued each month at the middle of the month. Checks are sent to and made payable to the child care provider.
Do I have to have a Marin Education Fund Professional and Technical Training Scholarship or Undergraduate Scholarship in order to apply for a Marin Education Fund Child Care Scholarship?
No, receiving our other scholarships is not a requirement to receive child care funding.
Who qualifies as a child care provider under your guidelines?
Any child facility licensed by the state.
If I already have a scholarship, do I have to apply again next year?
Yes, you must re-apply beginning July 1, 2008 as a renewing student.
What if I drop out of school or change enrollment?
You must notify Marin Education Fund immediately if your enrollment status changes. Awards are enrollment-based, and your enrollment status will affect your eligibility in the future.
What if I change my child care provider, what do I need to do?
Contact us in the event that you change child care providers. You will need to submit a new “provider verification form”, a copy of the provider’s child care license and a W-9 form.
